Drainage Planning

In many cases, poor field drainage is the most yield limiting factor.  Open up more farmable acres with GeoFarm's drainage program.

Elevation Logging elevation_logging_small.jpg

Elevation logging involves using a highly accurate RTK GPS signal to record vertical elevation points across the field.  Existing, or old ditch lines are also run separately to get accurate readings as well as to guage potential to use existing drainage ditches in the developed drainage plan.

Data Cleanup and Topography Mapping

This step of the program ensures collected data is removed of errors and obstacles to produce a truly accurate topography map which allows for simple, visual analysis of the general slope direction, and highlights existing drainage channels.

Watershed and Flow Route Creation watershed_small.jpg

Watersheds are areas of the field that drain to a common outlet within the flow routes.  In this example, the overall goal is to drain the red and orange watersheds out through the blue watershed.  Designing drainage improvements that stay within these watersheds is significantly more effective than trying to engineer new watersheds.

Drainage Recommendation Report

The drainage recommendation report includes statistics, performance ratings, and a written recommendation of how to effectively maximize drainage work within the field.  This drainage recommendation report, coupled with visual maps and files outlining recommended cutting or ditching actions brings the data to life, and the best understanding of economic gain.  Sometimes, multiple scenarios and recommendations are made depending on the field situation.
